Salesforce Opportunity Splits are designed to help sales teams share credit for an opportunity based on each member’s role and contribution. When multiple people work together on closing a deal, it’s important to acknowledge the individual efforts that led to the sale. With Opportunity Splits, sales teams can divide revenue or other custom amounts, like expected revenue, across multiple contributors, ensuring that each team member gets the appropriate recognition.

What Are Opportunity Splits?

Opportunity Splits is a powerful Salesforce feature that allows you to divide credit for an opportunity among multiple team members. Whether it’s revenue sharing, quota attribution, or bonus calculations, splits ensure everyone gets recognized for their contribution to the deal.

Setting Up Opportunity Splits

1. Enable Opportunity Teams

  • Navigate to Setup > Search for Opportunity Team Settings.
  • Enable Opportunity Teams and assign team roles to your members. This helps track the contributions of individual team members involved in the opportunity.

2. Enable Opportunity Splits

  • Go to Setup > Search for Opportunity Splits Settings.
  • Click Set Up Opportunity Splits
  1. Salesforce offers two split types:
    • Revenue Split: The total splits equal 100%, representing the full credit of the opportunity as split field is amount
    • Overlay Split: The splits can total more or less than 100%, allowing for greater flexibility in allocating credit as split field is amount
  • You can also add custom split types to fit your business needs and choose either Amount or Expected Revenue as the split field. You can check “totals 100” or leave it unchecked for flexibility.
  • After configuring, click Save to enable the Opportunity Splits feature.

3. Add Opportunity Splits to Page Layout

  • Navigate to Object Manager > Opportunity > Page Layouts.
  • Drag the Opportunity Splits related list to the layout so you can easily manage splits on the opportunity record.

4. Configure Splits

  • Once the Opportunity Splits related list is added, define team members and assign the appropriate split percentages directly from the Opportunity record.
  • You can adjust splits to ensure the appropriate credit is given to each contributor.

How Opportunity Splits Benefit Your Sales Process

Opportunity Splits are particularly useful for teams where multiple salespeople, managers, or departments work together on an opportunity. By splitting the credit, you can track each person’s contribution accurately, ensuring everyone is recognized for their role in closing the deal. It also provides clarity for commission calculations, making compensation fair and transparent.

Opportunity Splits help improve collaboration and foster a team-oriented environment, where credit is allocated based on effort and contribution rather than just the final sale.

Conclusion

By setting up and using Opportunity Splits in Salesforce, you ensure that team contributions are tracked and rewarded fairly. Whether you use Revenue Splits for a clear, percentage-based allocation of credit, or Overlay Splits for greater flexibility, this feature can be fully customized to suit your business needs. The ability to choose between splitting based on Amount or Expected Revenue allows for even greater control over how you manage team credits.

The Opportunity Splits feature not only improves transparency within your sales team but also helps motivate individual contributors by ensuring that everyone is properly recognized for their efforts. With a well-defined setup, Opportunity Splits make it easier to track performance, incentivize collaboration, and calculate commissions accurately.

Start using Opportunity Splits today to streamline your sales process, enhance team collaboration, and drive a more efficient and rewarding sales environment. Whether you’re closing a single deal or managing multiple opportunities, this tool empowers your team to focus on results, knowing that their contributions are valued and rewarded fairly.
