Marketing campaigns often start with one big idea and gradually grow into several smaller initiatives. A product launch, for example, might include separate campaigns for different regions, customer groups, social media channels, email promotions, or events. When all of these campaigns are managed separately, it can become difficult to understand how they are connected.

Horilla CRM makes this easier with the Parent Campaign feature. It allows you to connect campaigns using parent-child relationships, so related campaigns can be organized under a common structure.

With campaign hierarchies, you can create a main campaign and connect multiple sub-campaigns to it. You can then move between related campaigns and view the entire structure as a hierarchy, making it easier to understand how individual marketing efforts fit into the larger campaign.

In this guide, we’ll walk through how to create child campaigns, assign parent campaigns, view the hierarchy, and manage these relationships in Horilla CRM.

What Is a Campaign Hierarchy?

A campaign hierarchy is a structured way of connecting related campaigns. In Horilla CRM, this relationship is created using the Parent Campaign field.

The campaign at the top acts as the parent, while the campaigns connected beneath it become its child campaigns.

A campaign can have:

  • One parent campaign – the larger campaign it belongs to.
  • Multiple child campaigns – smaller campaigns created as part of the parent campaign.

For example, you could have a main campaign called 2026 Product Launch with child campaigns for:

  • Email Marketing
  • Social Media Promotion
  • South India Launch
  • North India Launch
  • Product Launch Event

This structure makes it easier to see how individual campaigns contribute to a larger marketing initiative.

Campaign hierarchies can be useful for regional campaigns, multi-channel marketing, seasonal promotions, product launches, or any other situation where several campaigns need to be grouped together.

Step 1: Assign a Parent Campaign

One way to create a campaign hierarchy is by assigning a parent campaign while editing an existing campaign.

Open the Campaign

Go to the campaign that you want to place under another campaign and click Edit.

Select the Parent Campaign

Locate the Parent Campaign field. Use the searchable dropdown to find and select the campaign that should act as the parent.

Save the Changes

After selecting the parent campaign, click Save.

The selected campaign is now connected to its parent, and the relationship will be reflected in the campaign records.

Step 2: Add a Child Campaign from the Parent Record

You can also create the relationship directly from the parent campaign.

Open the Parent Campaign

Open the campaign that you want to use as the parent.

Open the Child Campaigns Tab

From the campaign’s detail page, go to the Child Campaigns tab.

Click Add

Click Add to add a campaign to the list of child campaigns.

Select the Campaign

Search for the campaign you want to associate with the parent and select it from the list.

Save

Click Save to create the relationship.

The selected campaign will now appear under the parent’s Child Campaigns list. Depending on the information available in your campaign records, you can also view details such as the campaign name, start date, and end date.

This approach is particularly useful when you’re working from the main campaign and want to organize all of its related campaigns in one place.

Step 3: View the Campaign Hierarchy

Once parent and child relationships have been created, you can view the complete structure as a hierarchy.

Open the Child Campaigns tab of the campaign and click View Hierarchy.

A hierarchy view opens and displays the campaign structure from the top-level parent down through its child campaigns.

The hierarchy view allows you to:

  • Expand or collapse branches.
  • See multiple levels of related campaigns.
  • Identify the campaign you’re currently viewing.
  • Select a campaign directly from the hierarchy.
  • Navigate to a campaign’s detail page by clicking its name.

Instead of opening each campaign separately, the hierarchy gives you a quick overview of how the campaigns are organized.

Step 4: Remove a Campaign Relationship

Campaign structures can change over time. A campaign might be moved to another parent, discontinued, or reorganized as your marketing plans evolve.

Horilla CRM allows you to remove a parent-child relationship without deleting the campaign itself.

Remove the Relationship

Open the parent’s Child Campaigns tab and find the campaign you want to remove.

Click the Delete icon next to the child campaign and confirm the action.

This removes the relationship between the two campaigns, while both campaign records remain available in the CRM.

This means you can reorganize your campaign structure without accidentally deleting important campaign data.

When a marketing strategy involves several related campaigns, keeping track of their relationships can quickly become challenging. Horilla CRM’s Parent Campaign feature provides a simple way to organize these campaigns into a clear hierarchy.

You can assign a parent campaign while editing a record, add child campaigns directly from the parent, view the complete campaign structure through the hierarchy view, and remove relationships whenever your campaign strategy changes.

Whether you’re managing a large product launch, regional promotions, multiple marketing channels, or a long-running campaign divided into phases, campaign hierarchies help keep everything connected and easy to navigate.

With a well-organized campaign structure, your team can spend less time figuring out how campaigns are related and more time focusing on the marketing activities themselves.
