A well-designed employee dashboard does more than display data. It gives every individual in the organization a personalized, at-a-glance view of everything that directly affects their working life, from attendance and leave to payroll and goals, without requiring them to navigate through multiple modules just to answer basic questions about their own situation.

Horilla HRMS delivers exactly this through its My Dashboard feature within the Employee module, designed specifically for the individual employee’s perspective rather than the HR administrator’s view.

Here is a breakdown of every component on the dashboard and what it means for the employee using it.

Accessing My Dashboard

From the Employee module in the left sidebar, expanding the menu reveals several options, including My Dashboard, Profile, Employees, Organization Chart, Document Requests, Shift Requests, Work Type Requests, Rotating Shift Assign, Rotating Work Type Assign, Shift Roster, and Policies and Discipline. Selecting My Dashboard opens the personalized employee view.

The dashboard header shows the current date alongside date range controls, letting the employee switch the view between This Month, Last Month, and Quarter, or set a custom date range using the start and end date pickers. A Back button allows easy navigation without losing context.

Summary Metric Cards

At the top of the dashboard, four summary cards provide an immediate snapshot of the employee’s current status across the most important dimensions of their employment.

  • Leave Available shows the total number of leave days remaining across all leave types, along with a note on how many days are still available. This single number saves the employee from having to open the Leave module and calculate their balance manually before deciding whether to apply for time off.
  • Present This Month shows how many days the employee has been present in the selected month, with a note on how many of those days had late arrivals. This helps employees self-monitor their attendance without needing manager access or a separate attendance report.
  • Open Goals shows the number of active performance objectives currently assigned to the employee. Seeing this on the main dashboard serves as a regular reminder to engage with ongoing performance targets rather than treating them as something to revisit only during formal review periods.
  • Last Net Pay shows the employee’s most recent net salary figure. Having this visible on the dashboard means employees don’t need to navigate to payslips every time they want to confirm what was deposited last month, which is one of the most frequent reasons employees contact HR unnecessarily.

Leave Balance Chart

Below the summary cards, the Leave Balance section shows a horizontal bar chart breaking down available leave days by leave type. For example, Casual Leave and Sick Leave are shown as separate bars, with each bar divided into Available days and Carry Forward days from the previous period.

This visualization gives employees an immediate understanding of not just how much leave they have in total, but how it is distributed across different types. An employee planning upcoming time off can quickly assess whether their available days cover what they need and which leave type to apply against, without having to open the leave management section to check each type individually.

Work Hours This Week

The Work Hours This Week chart on the right side of the upper section displays a bar graph covering the current week from Monday through Sunday, showing the number of hours worked each day. A dashed horizontal line marks the target working hours for reference, making it easy to see at a glance which days fell short of the expected hours and which met or exceeded the target.

This self-monitoring capability is particularly valuable for employees on flexible schedules or those tracking overtime, since they can assess their weekly effort without waiting for a manager report or an attendance summary. It also creates a useful behavioral prompt: employees who can see their own hours in real time tend to be more aware of their patterns than those who only see attendance data after the fact.

My Attendance Calendar

The My Attendance section displays a full monthly calendar with each day color-coded to indicate the attendance status for that date. The color legend at the bottom distinguishes between Present, Late, Absent, Leave, and Holiday, making the calendar immediately readable without needing to hover over individual dates.

At a glance, an employee can see their entire month’s attendance pattern, identify any days marked as absent that they believe were actually present and may need a correction request, and understand how their attendance is being recorded in the system. The summary line below the calendar shows total counts for each status category, such as 18 Present, 1 Absent, 0 Leave, 0 Late, and 0 Holiday, giving a numerical summary alongside the visual representation.

This is one of the most practically useful components on the dashboard because attendance discrepancies are a common source of queries to HR. When employees can see exactly how their attendance is recorded, they can identify issues early and raise correction requests promptly rather than discovering a problem weeks later when it affects their payslip.

Recent Payslips

The Recent Payslips section displays the employee’s latest payslips with net pay versus gross pay figures, and notes that clicking on a payslip opens the full detail view. This gives employees quick access to compensation history without navigating to the Payroll module separately, and the comparison between gross and net pay provides immediate transparency about deductions applied in each period.

My Goals

The My Goals section shows active performance objectives and their current progress. Rather than requiring employees to open the Performance module to check where they stand on their objectives, this component surfaces that information directly on the main dashboard, reinforcing the connection between day-to-day work and longer-term performance targets.

Quick Actions Panel

On the right side of the dashboard, the Quick Actions panel provides one-click shortcuts to the four most common employee self-service tasks: Apply Leave, Attendance, Payslips, and My Profile. These shortcuts reduce the number of clicks required for the actions employees perform most frequently, making the dashboard a practical starting point for daily system interactions rather than just a read-only summary screen.

Recent Leave Requests

Also on the right panel, the Recent Leave Requests section shows the status of the employee’s latest leave applications, such as a Casual Leave request marked as Pending, along with the dates requested. A View All link provides access to the full leave request history. This keeps employees informed about the status of pending requests without requiring them to navigate to the leave module just to check whether an application has been approved.

Announcements and Upcoming Events

The Announcements section on the right panel displays active company communications with their titles, dates, and expiry dates. These might include program announcements, policy updates, infrastructure notices, or upcoming company events and Public Holidays. The Upcoming section below it shows any events scheduled for the current month.

Having announcements directly on the employee dashboard ensures that important communications reach employees where they already are, rather than relying on separate email broadcasts that may go unread.

The My Dashboard in Horilla HRMS brings together every dimension of an employee’s working life into a single, coherent view. Leave balances, attendance history, work hours, payslips, goals, leave request status, and company announcements are all visible without switching between modules or raising a query to HR. For employees, this level of self-service visibility reduces dependency on HR for routine information. For HR teams, it means fewer inbound questions about leave balances, attendance records, and payslip details, freeing up time for work that actually requires human judgment. A well-designed employee dashboard is not just a convenience feature; it is a meaningful part of how an organization communicates that it respects its employees’ time and autonomy.
